Ingredients list
- 1 cup self-raising flour
- 250g cottage cheese
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- Optional toppings: poppy seeds, sesame seeds, garlic granules, Nigella seeds, cinnamon sugar
Method
- Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F). Line a baking tray with parchment paper.
- Loosen the cottage cheese by stirring it with a fork until smooth.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the self-raising flour, salt, and the loosened cottage cheese. If the dough feels too dry, add warm water a little at a time until it comes together.
- Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead until smooth—just a minute or two.
- Shape the bagels: Roll the dough into a ball, then divide into four equal parts. Roll each into a round, poke a large hole in the centre, and shape into classic bagel rings.
- Brush each bagel with the beaten egg, and sprinkle with your toppings of choice.
- Bake for 25–28 minutes, or until softly golden and cooked through.
